Abstract

1499766 Process for the preparation of isonitroacetanilides BASF AG 8 May 1975 [20 May 1974] 19368/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of isonitrosoacetanilides of the general Formula I wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are independently a hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro, carboxyl or alkoxy group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical optionally substituted by one or more substituents which are inert under the reaction conditions in which an aniline of Formula II wherein R<SP>1</SP> or R<SP>2</SP> are as defined above, is reacted with chloral and hydroxylamine at a pH of 0À2 to 2À0 while adding a base. In the examples R<SP>2</SP> is a hydrogen atom and R<SP>1</SP> is either hydrogen or a 4-chloro or 4-methyl substitutent whilst suitable starting materials disclosed have Formula II wherein R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>2</SP> are C 1-4 alkyl, nitro, C 1-4 alkoxy, CO 2 H groups, Cl or Br.
