Abstract

1499664 Coating flux for welding electrode BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 16 April 1975 [24 April 1974] 17937/74 Heading C7M A flux coating for a welding electrode comprises in weight per cent 15-35 rutile, 10-30 ilmenite, 6-20 CaCo 3 or Mg CO 3 , 5-25 potassium felspar, 6-12 clay and 5-15 Mn. The flux may also contain 1-15% mica, 0À2-2% at least one of gum arabic, gum karaya, sodium alginate and carboxymethylcellulose and 5-15% of an aqueous solution of sodium and potassium silicates. Ilmenite is defined as any mineral comprising 45-65% TiO 2 with the remainder being mainly iron oxides; rutile is any mineral consisting mainly of TiO 2 and potassium felspar is a mineral comprising 4-12% K 2 O, 72-75% SiO 2 and 15-18% Al 2 O 3 . The ilmenite felspar ratio is preferably 0À7-3À1 and the flux is conventionally extrusion coated on to a steel core welding wire.
