1499608 Polybenzoxazoles V V KORSHAK G M TSEITLIN V N KULAGIN A Y CHERNIKHOV D M Y FILIPPENKO M S AKUTIN and L V POPOVA 1 Nov 1976 45338/76 Heading C3R The invention comprises poly-benzoxazoles containing units of formula and units of formula in a molar ratio of 1 : 9 to 9 : 1 and where X is O, S, SO, SO 2 , CO or CR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> being hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups and A is phenylene, naphthylene or two phenylenes linked by an X. The polymers may be obtained by reacting appropriate mixtures of bis-oaminophenols of formula and of formula with dicarboxylic acids or reactive derivatives thereof of formula where Y is an hydroxy group, halide atom, alkoxy group or phenoxy group. Examples are given.
