Abstract

1499238 Credit cards and the like LGZ LANDIS & GYR ZUG AG 29 April 1976 [6 May 1975] 17574/76 Heading B6A To prevent fraudulent copying of information stored in a magnetic layer on a security or like card, a heat sensitive substance is incorporated which damages the card when heated to a temperature at which thermal contact copying of the information may be effected. The information may be erradicated or the magnetic layer or base sheet of the card damaged in the range 115-125‹ C. The heat sensitive substance may be a bonding agent for magnetic Fe 2 O 3 particles in the layer, e.g. a thermoplastic fusion adhesive of ethylene vinyl acetate and methylene chloride which melts at the said temperature. In another embodiment, the bonding agent is a waxy, low molecular, low pressure polyethylene. A mixture of these two bonding agents may be used. In an alternative form, the heat sensitive substance is a blowing agent mixed with a PVC lacquer bonding agent.
