Abstract

1499172 Upgrading anatase ore ISHIHARA SANGYO KAISHA Ltd 10 March 1975 [11 March 1974] 9816/75 Heading C1N An anatase ore is upgraded by (1) concentrating the ore by a dressing process comprising scrubbing and gravity concentrating to provide a concentrate having a TiO 2 content of 25-50% and a total Al 2 O 3 and SiO 2 content of less than 18% by weight of TiO 2 content and if said concentrate has TiO 2 content of 35-50% wt. and total Fe content higher than 25% passing it to step (2) below but if said concentrate has TiO 2 content of 25-35%, further concentrating said concentrate or adding a material to produce a second concentrate having a TiO 2 content of 35-55% by weight and a total Fe content of higher than 25% and (2) smelting the concentrate in the presence of a carbonaceous reductant to produce a high titanium slag having a TiO 2 content of higher than 70%.
