Abstract

1498961 Transfer printing process BEMROSE TRANSFER PRINTS Ltd 27 June 1975 [2 July 1974] 29349/74 Heading D1B A printed transfer sheet carries an image formed from one or more sublimable dyes and a sublimable organic azide, the azide group of which is thermally decomposable to a nitrene radical. Preferred organic azides are aromatic organic sulphonyl azides, aryl azides, organic carbonyl azides or heterocyclic azides, particularly 4-azidosulphonyl-phthalic anhydride. Sheet materials, particularly textile fabrics are transfer printed by contacting with the above transfer sheet and heating to a temperature above the dye sublimation temperature and above the temperature at which thermal decomposition of the azide occurs. Preferred textile materials are formed from polyamide, proteinaceous, cellulosic, polyester or acrylic fibres.
