Abstract

1498683 Air braking systems; valves ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 6 May 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 18853/75 Headings F2F and F2V A test valve 22 in a compressed air braking system tests the spring-applied parking brakes 18, 19 of a tractor vehicle by releasing the trailer brakes only when the parking brakes are applied, the test valve being locked from movement when the parking brakes are pressurized and thus released. The braking system comprises a compressor 1 supplying through a pressure regulator 2 both reservoirs 5, 6 connectable by a brake valve 10 to respective actuators 11, 12 and a trailer brake control valve 15; a trailer air supply line 9 and through a check value 8 a reservoir 7 connected to the test valve line 25, the parking brake valve 16 and a relay valve 17 controlled from the valve 16 through a line 20 connected also by a line 21 to the test valve 22. The control valve 15 is responsive to increase in pressure in one or both of lines 13, 14 or a decrease in pressure in the line 23 from the test value to actuate the trailer brakes. The two position three-chamber test valve 22 includes a spool 32 movable axially by rotation of a member 31 having cam surfaces 35 engageable with a pin 29 and splined to a rotary knob 26 with slots to accommodate the pin 29. In the position shown and with the valve 16 in its parking brake release condition, the line 21 and chamber 44 are pressurized, the valve is locked by the pressure acting on a piston head 47 of the valve in addition to the loading of a spring 36 and the pressure in the lower chamber 37 which is connected to the line 25 and hence the reservoir 7. When the tractor parking brake is applied by releasing the pressure in the lines 20 and 21 and the chamber 44 the spool may be depressed by rotating the knob 26. when the trailer control valve line 23 is pressurized from the chamber 37 and the trailer brakes released.
