Abstract
1453593 Multi-circuit tractor-trailer brake system; valves ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 1 Nov 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 50740/73 Headings F2F and F2V In a multi-circuit compressed air tractor-trailer brake system, a trailer brake control valve 16 is selectively operable in response to an increase in pressure in either of two tractor service air brake lines I, II or by a drop in pressure in a spring loaded brake circuit 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, to actuate trailer brakes, the spring loaded brake circuit having an auxiliary brake valve 25 which selectively connects the spring loaded brake circuit to an air supply 7 for brake release or to atmosphere for brake actuation and a check valve 27 which operates on a non-return valve when pressure therein is below a predetermined value to prevent an uncontrolled drop in pressure in the spring- loaded brake circuit, or as an inactive valve to allow flow in either direction when the predetermined pressure is exceeded between the valve 25 and a supply line. A compressor 1 supplies air through a pressure regulator 2, a defrosting pump 3 and a flow circuit protective valve 4 which has outlets to reservoirs 5, 6 for the tractor brakes via lines I, II to a brake valve 10 controlling at least one front axle brake cylinder 13, and at least one rear axle cylinder 15. A trailer supply line 7 leads from the valve 4 to a coupling head 9 and to the spring controlled brake circuit via the check valve 27, the circuit comprising a relay valve 22 controlled by a brake valve 25, and spring brake cylinders 23, 24 for parking or emergency use. The trailer control valve 16 controls supply to the trailer brakes for the supply line 7. The check valve 27, Fig. 2, has a first piston 30 with a sealing ring 32 controlling air flow and controlled by a weak spring 33 which abuts a strong spring controlled piston 36 so that initial supply pressure lifts the piston 30, subsequent movement of the piston 36 holding the piston 30 by mutual engagement away from its seat to allow air flow in either direction, the pistons closing upon supply failure (below a predetermined pressure valve) is protect the spring brakes.
