Abstract

Compounds of the general formula II <IMAGE> in which R represents chlorine, bromine and/or fluorine and n represents 1, 2, 3 or 4 while Y represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having up to 10 carbon atoms which has a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom or several atoms from amongst this group as substituents, can be used as selective herbicides against wild oats, Avena fatua, in barley fields. These compounds are prepared by reacting carboxylic acids of the formula III <IMAGE> with a suitably halogenated alcohol.
