Abstract
1498268 Stabilized unsaturated polyester resin compositions CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 14 May 1975 [15 July 1974 30 Aug 1974] 20267/75 Heading C3P A moulding or coating composition comprises: (a) an unsaturated polyester; (b) a vinyl or vinylidene monomer copolymerizable with (a); (c) a tertiary aromatic amine as accelerator; (d) a stabilizer; and (c) as co-stabilizer, 0À01-5% by weight, based on the sum of (a) and (b), of a compound of the general formula wherein X=R 1 C(=O)-, Y=H-, R 1 =phenyl or alkyl (C 1-8 ), in which a -CH 2 - group can be replaced by -C(=O)-O-, R 2 = phenyl or alkyl(C 1-8 ), radical and n, r, s and t assume the following values: n=1-8, r=1, 2 or 3, s=0 or 1 and t=0, 1 or-2 provided always that r+s+t=3. The specific examples describe compositions containing either an unsaturated polyester formed from (a) fumaric acid, phthalic anhydride, 1,2-propanediol or (b) tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, diglycol both together with as copolymerizable monomer styrene and as co-stabilizer in triacetylmethane, acetylacetone, diacetylacetic acid ethyl ester, diacetylacetic acid allyl ester, acetoacetic acid ethyl ester, acetyl malonic acid diethyl ester, butyrylacetic acid ethyl ester, benzoylacetone, benzoylacetic acid ethyl ester, acetonedicarboxylic acid diethyl ester, acetoacetic acid anilide, and butanediol-1,4-bis-acetoacetic acid methyl ester. The accelerator component (c) is preferably bis- (hydroxyethyl)-p-toluidine and the stabilizer (d) is preferably hydroquinone.
