Abstract

1498192 SO 2 determining material KODAK Ltd 11 Sept 1975 [17 Sept 1974] 40467/74 Heading G1B A material, for determining sulphur dioxide in an environment, consists of a support bearing a layer comprising a binder free from sulphite ions, pararosaniline or an acid salt thereof and an aldehyde and/or an aldehyde releasing compound. The binder may be polyvinylalcohol or gelatine, the support can be polyethylene terephthalate and the aldehyde or aldehyde releasing compounds selected from formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, benzaldehyde, crotonaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, a urea formaldehyde resin or hexamethylene tetramine. The density of the magenta colour formed in the material gives a measure of SO 2 content.
