1497523 Fracturing subterranean formations VSES N-I INST ISPOLZOVANIJA GAZA V NARODNOM KHOZYAISTVE PODZEM KHRANENIA NEFTI NEFTEPRODUKTOV I SZHIZHENNYKH GAZOV VNIIPROMGAZ 1 July 1976 27429/76 Heading E1F A mineral bed 4 having wells 1-3 is hydraulically fractured between the wells 1 and 2 by sealing the head of well 1, opening the head of well 3, pumping a liquid into the well 2 at a pressure in excess of the sum total of the pressure of the strata overlying the bed and the fracture strength of the bed, measuring the pressure in the well 1, abruptly opening the head of the well 1 when the pressure therein rises to a value sufficient to correspond to hydraulic fracturing of the bed, and continuing the pumping of the liquid into the well 2 to flush and to expand the fissure 8 formed in the bed. Preferably the fissure 8 is purged with compressed air after the flushing thereof with the liquid.
