Abstract

1497438 Vehicle bumpers BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO Ltd 19 March 1976 [19 March 1975] 11468/75 Heading B7J A vehicle bumper comprises two interfitting channel sections 2, 3 welded together along seams 16, the front and rear walls 4, 5 being thicker than the top and bottom walls 6, 7 whereby the walls 6, 7 deform before the walls 4, 5 in the event of a collision. The front wall includes channels receiving a decorative strip 23 and the rear wall is cut away at its ends to permit shaping of the bumper. The weld seams 16 may be located in the walls 6, 7. The bumper corners 17-20 are thickened to provide reinforced portions and the channel sections are formed from an extruded aluminium/ magnesium/zinc alloy of 18 tons per square inch proof stress.
