Abstract

1497416 Monoazo dyes SANDOZ Ltd 7 Jan 1975 [11 Jan 1974] 573/75 Heading C4P Novel monazo dyes having the formula (where R 1 and R 3 are independently H, OH, Cl, Br, C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy, C 1-4 alkylcarbonyl, C 1-4 alkoxy-carbonyl, C 1-4 alkyl-carbonylamino or C 1-4 alkoxy-carbonylamino; R 2 is H, C 1-4 alkyl carbonyl, C 1-4 alkoxycarbonyl, benzoyl, or C 1-4 alkyl optionally substituted by C 1-4 alkoxy, phenoxy, benzyloxy, halo, or OH; R 4 is NO 2 or CN and R 5 is Cl or Br) are prepared by diazotization and coupling or by reacting the corresponding compound, in which R 2 is H, with a compound of formula R 6 COX, where R 6 is C 1-4 alkyl or alkoxy, or phenyl and X is OH, Cl or Br or, when X is OH, an anhydride thereof. The compounds in which R 2 is optionally substituted alkyl are prepared by reacting the compounds of Formula I, in which -OR 2 is replaced by Cl, with the appropriate alcoholate. The dyes are used for colouring fibres or filaments of hydrophobic high molecular weight polymer material, particularly cellulose acetate, polyester or polyamide, in blue to reddish-blue shades.
