Abstract
1497241 Universal joints NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 10 Feb 1976 [19 Feb 1975] 05067/76 Heading F2U In a constant velocity ratio universal joint of known type, having torque-transmitting balls 14 engaged in grooves 22, 26 formed in both an inner member 10 and an outer member 12, and having a cage 28 whose part-spherical surfaces 32, 34 engage respectively surfaces 24, 20 of the inner and outer members, the cage 28 is provided with two diametrically opposed notches 40 of such a shape and size that, in the course of assembly, the inner member 10 when its axis is turned at right angles to the cage axis can be inserted into the cage and subsequently rotated until the axes are aligned, when the inner member becomes captive within the cage. Where the cage construction is such that it has one axial end 36 which is of thicker cross-section than the other end 38, the slots 40 are cut into the thicker end 36.
