Abstract

1497181 Measuring thickness of sheets DE LA RUE CROSFIELD Ltd 21 May 1976 [23 May 1975] 22540/75 Heading G1N The thickness of a sheet of strip material is determined by feeding it through the nip of a first, rigid roller 4 mounted on a fixed axis shaft 5 and a second roller 6 comprising a rigid ferrous rim 8 on a rubber disc 9, also mounted on a fixed axis shaft 7. The tickness of the test sheet distorts the rubber disc 9 and brings the rim 8 nearer to a detector 10 comprising two windings on a central rod core surrounded by a tubular outer core. One winding is A.C.-energized and the voltage induced in the second winding is inversely proportional to the thickness of the material between the rollers 4, 6. This output voltage is used to count the number of single sheets and to divert multiple layered sheets.
