1497033 Coating compositions based on modified butadiene polymers NIPPON OIL CO Ltd 28 Oct 1974 [1 Nov 1973] 31169/77 Divided out of 1497032 Addition to 1460453 Heading C3P Water-soluble or water-dispersible coating compositions comprise (1) an adduct of (a) a butadiene polymer of M.W. 200-10,000 which is either a homopolymer or a copolymer with another conjugated diene or a vinyl aromatic monomer and (b) an α,#-ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid compound, said adduct having been prepared in the presence of a catechol or pyrogallol compound of given formulµ, see parent Specification, (2) a hydrophilic solvent, and (3) a neutralizing agent. In examples, the components are (1) polybutadiene/maleic anhydride adduct prepared in the presence of pyrogallol or p-t-butylcatechol, (2) ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, and (3) triethylamine.
