1496597 Rear view mirrors ICHIKOH INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 Aug 1975 [12 Aug 1974 (2)] 33409/75 Heading B7J A breakaway rear view mirror assembly comprises a synthetic resin base plate 2 mountable on the interior of a motor vehicle, a mirror supporting arm 1 mounting, on a ball, at one end, a mirror holder for a mirror proper and having at its other end a projection 14 for detachably engaging an opening 21 in the base plate, wherein the projection 14 is rectangular in transverse cross-section and has a head portion with lateral protrusions 15 and a neck portion connecting the head to a platform 13 on the arm end and wherein the base plate has a pair of integral opposed resilient strips 22 with a gap therebetween which gap is smaller in width than the head portion which is snapped past the strips so that the head is secured within the base plate 2 with neck engaged by the edge portions of the strips 22 as described with reference to Fig. 8 (not shown). Surfaces 12 on the arm 1 at each side of the projection 14 and platform 13 are slightly inclined relative to each other about a control ridge line 12a, so that the planes of the surfaces 12 form an angle of more than 180 degrees therebetween. The opposed surface 23 of the base plate 2 has inclined surfaces at each side of a central groove 23a such that the planes of those surfaces are at an angle of less than 180 degrees. However the sum of the included angles of the arm and base abutting surfaces is equal to 360 degrees. The resilient strips 22 are provided with stiffener ribs 26.
