Abstract

1496551 Speech synthesizer INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 7 Oct 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 40981/75 Heading H4R In an arrangement wherein a spoken message is reconstituted from a sequence of stored digital samples, a second store 22 is used to produce, in association with each digital sample read out from the speech store 3, an additional signal comprising the logical combination of an identification code of the said message and a parity signal. A monitoring means 21 is also provided in a path between the store 3 and an electro-acoustical transducer 1 and has as its input the additional signal from which it reconstitutes the identification code and compares it with an identification code locally generated by a unit 27. The additional signal preferably comprises a single bit which is transmitted in parallel with the speech sample bits. The monitoring unit is preferably placed at the output of a time switching stage of a telephone network over which the messages are transmitted and its purpose is to produce a fault indication when the identification code comparison proves negative.
