Abstract
1496259 Treatment of emulsions OTTO DURR KG 15 Sept 1975 [16 Sept 1974] 37763/75 Heading B1X A process for the treatment of an emulsion comprises the steps of pumping the emulsion around a first circuit, withdrawing a portion of the emulsion from the first circuit and subjecting it to filtration, optionally ultrafiltration, in a second circuit to obtain a filtrate and a concentrate, and discharging the concentrate from the second circuit. An apparatus comprises a first circuit, pump means for circulating the emulsion in the first circuit, a second circuit including filter, optionally ultra filter, means and connected to the first circuit, and a first valve for totally or partially restricting the flow of emulsion from the first circuit to the second circuit the arrangement being such that the emulsion is filtered in the second circuit to obtain a filtrate and a concentrate and means for discharging the concentrate from the second circuit. The second circuit may be connected to a collecting vessel by two lines between which the filter means is disposed to form a third circuit. The use of a semi-permeable tubular membrane for recovering oil/water emulsion is described.
