Abstract

1495760 Sewing-machines SINGER CO 12 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 5881/75 Heading DIG A sewing machine comprises a bed assembly 10 including a free arm 16 with a first worksupporting surface 20 and a support member 18 pivotable between a first position (solid lines in Fig. I) in which a second worksupporting surface 54 thereon forms a continuation of the surface 20 to support flat material and a second position (broken lines) clear of the arm 16 to allow the latter to support tubular material, cam means 73, 76 being provided to displace the member 18 along its pivot axis when it is being pivoted so as to avoid abrasion of adjacent surfaces of the bed assembly and member. The member 18 is pivotally and slidably mounted on screws 60, 61 and a spring or springs 68 urge the cam means 73, 76 into engagement. A spring loaded detent member 80 secures the member 18 in its first position. Cams 76 of different sizes or shapes may be used to vary the clearance between the bed assembly and member 18.
