Abstract

1495445 Attaching web ends to rolls F PERINI 18 Feb 1975 [10 Sept 1974] 6825/75 Heading B8R A device for attaching the trailing ends of web rolls comprises a conveyer 1 supplying the rolls B1 to an inclined plane 5 into which the rolls are displaced by a pivotal arm 3, the rolls moving along the plane 5 formed by a pair of suction boxes 6, 7 cause their trailing ends to unwind. The unwound trailing ends are held flat by the action of the boxes 6, 7 and a blast of air delivered from a nozzle 38. When the unwound web rolls B3 have approached a pair of rotary members formed by an endless tape conveyer 10 and a main roller 9, which rotates faster than the conveyer 10, the rolls are rewound again under tension. The passage of the trailing ends between the boxes 6, 7 and across a space 26 is sensed by photoelectric detector means 32, 34. The latter cause a rotary brush roller 16, 18 to apply a predetermined length of spaced adhesive lines to the web rolls to cause the rewound trailing ends to be attached to the web rolls B3, which are then discharged on to a table 22. The photo-electric means 32, 34, and the conveyer 10 as well as the brush roller 16, 18 are adjustable to cope with rolls of different diameter. The brush roller may be replaced by a spray nozzle assembly located above the box 7, which is replaced by an adhesive catch tray.
