1495420 Titanium pigments BAYER AG 2 April 1975 [5 April 1974] 13396/75 Heading C1N An aqueous titanium pigment suspension, e.g. TiO 2 containing at least one aliphatic amine and/or alkanolamine as dispersant further includes at least one organic sulphonate salt, organic sulphate salt or organic sulphonic acid amide or mixtures thereof to prolong shelf life. The suspension preferably contains 0À005-2% weight of the amine, which may be ethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, monoisopropanolamine and/ or di-isopropanolamine and 0À005-0À5% of the S-containing compound based on the pigment. The S-containing compound preferably is of formula in which R represents a linear or branched, alkyl or alkoxy radical with 10-20 C atoms, a cycloalkyl radical of 5-7 C atoms or an aliphatic-aromatic radical of 12-24 C atoms and X represents O-M or NR 1 R 2 , wherein M=NH 4 <SP>+</SP>, Na<SP>+</SP>, K+, Ca<SP>2+</SP>, Mg<SP>2+</SP>, and R 1 and R 2 independently of one another represent H, C 1- C 4 alkyl or the radical where n=0-10 and R 3 =H or CH 3 , with the proviso that only one of the radicals R 1 and R 2 represents a C 1 -C 4 alkyl and where X represents NR 1 R 2 , R does not represent an alkoxy radical. The components of the suspension may be incorporated therein in any order. The suspensions may also include other additives such as fillers, e.g. BaSO 4 , CaCO 3 , dolomite, silicates or mica and/or organic modifying agents, e.g. para-chlorometacresol or Na-pentachlorophenolate.
