Abstract

1495326 Transporting salts for drilling muds SHELL INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 19 May 1975 21115/75 Heading E1F Salt grains for use as a component in a drilling mud are formed into a pumpable slurry at a location remote from the drilling location, and transported in a storage vessel 2 to the drilling location (10), Fig. 3 (not shown), where it is pumped into a second storage vessel (11). The slurry consists of a stable suspension of the salt grains in a gel. The gel may be formed from fresh or salt water with the addition of polymers as gelforming agents, and the preferred salt grains are potassium chloride. The slurry may be prepared in a vessel 8 on shore, or in the storage vessel 2 on board ship.
