Visible signals displayed from balloons; optically-projected signals.-A captive balloon or kite adapted to set itself in the direction of the wind has a direction-indicating design conspicuously marked upon it and illuminated by a searchlight carried by the balloon. The design may be opti. cally projected on to the balloon, and the searchlight or projection apparatus may be situated above it and arranged to give intermittent flashes in an upward direction, from the timing of which the position of the balloon may be identified. The searchlight may also illuminate the landing station or project the name of the station on the ground.
