Abstract

1494478 Indexing; turret lathes WICKMAN MACHINE TOOL SALES Ltd 21 Nov 1974 [29 Nov 1973] 55304/73 Headings B3B and B3T In a machine tool such as a lathe having a rotatably indexable turret assembly 14, 21, 22, 26 which is connected a longitudinal guide 43 axial traverse of the turret means is provided for accurately locating the turret after each indexing action which includes a pair of concentric adjacent ring members 44, 45, having axially presented teeth 48, 49, and which ring members are connected to the flange of the turret carrier bush 22 and an inner guide arm 31 of the longitudinal guide assembly respectively. The teeth of the rings are radially alignable and are concentric with the axis of the stem portion 14 of the turret assembly the rings having intermediate radial clearance between them to permit relative rotation during indexing of the turret. Secured to the ring 45 is a sleeve 51 to which is attached a locking gear 52 which has axially presented teeth which are engageable with the teeth on the rings 44, 45. The locking gear 52 is secured to a control ring 54 which is axially displaceable by way of a cam and pin mechanism to engage and disengage the locking gear 52 with both the rings 44, 45 and thereby accurately locate and lock the turret assembly to its support and guide assembly after each indexing operation. The traverse motion of the turret during a machining operation is effected by a screw and nut mechanism (not shown).
