Abstract

1494430 Butenediol diacetates BASF AG 10 April 1975 [11 April 1974] 14727/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] A butenediol diacetate is prepared by reacting butadiene, oxygen and acetic acid in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising platinum metal and at least one element from phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, selenium and tellurium. The reaction may be in gas or liquid phase, preferably gas phase and the catalyst is prepared by conventional methods from soluble salts followed by reduction. Examples describe the preparation of but-2- en-1,4-diol and but-1-ene-3,4-diol diacetates.
