Abstract

1494417 Pipe supports; welded joints R V ALBON 28 April 1976 [1 Sept 1975] 35959/75 Headings F2P and F2G A method of connecting and supporting two lengths of pipe 5 and 6 by means of a pipe connector comprising a sleeve 2 carrying a projecting apertured flange 3 attached to the outer periphery of the sleeve, comprises the steps of: (i) positioning the connector such -that one length of pipe projects into one end of the sleeve 2; (ii) securing the connector to an anchorage point by means of the apertured flange 3; (iii) positioning the other pipe length such that it projects into the other end of the sleeve 2; steps (i) to (iii) being performed in any desired sequence and the method additionally comprising rigidly joining the two lengths of pipe 5 and 6 to the connector by welding. In a first embodiment the connector is fabricated by seam welding the longitudinal edges of stainless steel sheet to form a cylindrical sleeve 2 to which a longitudinal planar stainless steel flange 3 is welded. A further flange may be provided on the opposite side of the sleeve 2 for support of large diameter pipes and the flanges incorporate bolt holes 4 for connection to an anchorage point. Additionally, to avoid unhygienic crevices when comestibles are being transported in the pipeline, an annular ring may be wedged axially between the abutting ends of the pipes 5 and 6. The flange may alternatively be arranged transversely of the longitudinal sleeve axis.
