Abstract

1494220 Discharging articles from conveyers SI HANDLING SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 24 Dec 1974 [27 Dec 1973 9 May 1974] 55738/74 Heading B8A Articles such as parcels 2 are selectively discharged into lateral shoots 5 aligned with respective gates 4 which form a wall 3 extending perpendicularly to an inclined endless belt 1, each gate being downwardly displacable by a respective ram (11), Fig. 3 (not shown), to provide a discharge opening 7 in the wall 3 through which an article may pass into the associated shoot 5, and each gate 4 has a wedgeshaped member 8 attached thereto which, when a gate 4 has been lowered, is located in the trailing end of the discharge opening 7 then provided so that the article passing through opening 7 is directed upwardly along the upper inclined wall 10 of the member and is thereby turned as it passes into the associated shoot 5. In the alternative embodiment of Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), each gate (15) has a wedge portion (16) attached to its leading edge and on lowering a gate (15) the wedge portion (16) of the succeeding gate (15) projects into the opening provided by the lowering of the gate and functions in the manner of the member 8 of the previous embodiment. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 (not shown), each gate (19) may be tilted downwardly about a respective pivot (20) by a ram (22) and when a gate is so tilted the rear edge portion (27) of the top surface of the gate still extends within the opening so provided and is disposed above the lower edge of the belt (26). In a still further embodiment, Figs. 7-11 (not shown), each shoot (5) is pivotally attached to its associated gate (4) and moves therewith during raising and lowering of the latter.
