Abstract
1494143 Stretchers FERNO-WASHING- TON-INC 2 May 1975 [2 May 1974] 18459/75 Heading A5X A stretcher comprises a first frame section 1 formed from two complementary frame parts 4, 5, a second frame section 2 formed from two complementary frame parts 11, 12, and a seat frame section, Figs. 4-8 (not shown) first locking means 10, 19 which allow detachment and pivotal movement, and second locking means 3 to hold the frame sections rigidly together, the first frame section be selectively attachable to either the second frame section or the seat frame section. The first frame section comprises tubular members 6, 7 and support panels 20 21, the panels optionally being formed from a series of ribs 26, 27. The second frame section comprises tubular members 13-16, and support panels 22-25, the tubular members 15, 16 being disposed inwardly of members 13, 14 and being telescopically received within panels 22, 23 with locking fixtures 29, 30 controlling their extension. The tubular members may be of aluminium and the panels of cast aluminium or moulded plastics. Hand holes 28 are provided in both frame sections for carrying, or attaching straps to the tubular members. The first locking means 10, 19 each comprise a first part having a tongue which is received in a bifurcated second part, the tongue having an open-ended slot engageable with a pivot pin extending between the bifurcation, and a latch member which engages with the pin to lock the parts together. The second locking means 3 each have a tongue 33 and a bifurcated part 34 which are lockable together against rotation to maintain rigidity.- A head rest is provided, Figs. 9 to 14 (not shown), which fits onto an end of the stretcher and includes cushions, a head strap, and a chin strap to maintain the head of the patient still. The pivotable seat section (36), Figs. 4-8 (not shown), includes complementary frame parts constructed from tubular members and support panels in the manner of the frame sections described above and connected by locking means of the same type as the first locking means, locking mechanisms which connect the seat section to the first section and allow the seat section to be pivoted relative thereto and locked at the desired angle, and straps to retain the frame parts together and keep the patient in position. The parts of the stretcher are assembled around and under the patient in the position in which the patient is found and then locked together to rigidify the stretcher for removal of the patient.
