Abstract

1493982 Repairing submerged structures BALFOUR BEATTY Ltd 14 April 1976 [15 Jan 1975] 1774/75 Heading E1H The submerged part of a pier 1 and a part of it protruding from the surface of a body of water 7 are surrounded by a fluidimpermeable flexible envelope 3 which is sealed at 4 to the bed of the body of water near the pier and to the pier at 5. Water is withdrawn from the enclosure 6 formed which is then partly filled with cement and air is evacuated so that sufficient pressure difference is created to force the cement into cracks or voids in the pier. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) a framework lies between the envelope and a face of the pier.
