Abstract

1493933 Recovery of precious metals JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd 24 Feb 1975 [1 March 1974] 9393/74 Heading C7D A process for the recovery of precious metal material from an aqueous slurry of carbonaceous residues comprises heating the slurry to a temperature of 200‹C or greater under a pressure of more than 75 atmospheres in an oxygen containing atmosphere in an autoclave. This substantially oxidizes all the oxidazable carbon present, leaving the precious metal material to be recovered from the aqueous phase by normal chemical means. The process may be used for the recovery of Pt group metals used on charcoal or carbon supports as catalysts in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as recovery of Ag from photographic films. Oxidation catalysts such as Li, Na, K, Ca, Sr, Ba, V, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mn, Ti, Mo, W, Ag, Re, U, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir, Pt, Sb, B, Sn or S may be present.
