Abstract

1493345 Cooling air in respiratory apparatus DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 5 Nov 1974 [7 Aug 1973] 37452/73 Heading A5T [Also in Divisions A3 and F4] Respiratory apparatus for breathing ambient air comprises a fluid cooled heat exchanger element arranged in a duct 41 for both inhalate and exhalate. The fluid and exhalate act in consort to cool the inhalate. The element is a coiled metal tube, the coils 43 may be spanned by metal gauze 46. The respiratory apparatus is used with protective inner and outer garments (see Division A3). An alarm for indicating that only a short period of cooling remains, and an air filter may be provided.
