Abstract

1492781 Releasable fastenings MAGNATEX Ltd 6 March 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 04409/74 Heading E2A [Also in Division B7] A break-away mounting for a rear-view mirror comprises a mounting member 1 for attachment to a vehicle door 3 and having two oppositely facing undercut end walls 4 and 5, and a mirror support bracket 8 having a recess 9 in its base which fits over the end walls 4, 5 so that the bracket may be secured in engagement with the member 1 by means of a tightening screw 11 engaging a groove 7 in the wall 5, the end walls 4, 5 being flexible such that in an impact the bracket will break away from the member without such damage as will prevent its being resecured thereon. As shown the mounting member 1 is a resiliently deformable plastics moulding having a mounting plinth 15 around its periphery and a pair of upstanding portions 13, 14 which provide the walls 4, 5 and holes 2 for screws to be attached to the vehicle door 3.
