Abstract

1491989 Windscreen wipers WYNSTRUMENTS Ltd 28 April 1976 [6 Sept 1975] 36776/75 Heading A4F [Also in Division F2] To convert the rotation of a drive-shaft 3, powered by a unit such as an electric motor, into the pendular motion of a vehicle or vessel, windscreen or window wiper (not shown) attached to a shaft 13 e.g. as shown at 90 degrees to the shaft 3, a mechanism is used which comprises a swash-plate 7 mounted on the end of the drive-shaft 3, a connecting part such as a radially extending stub shaft 11 associated with the swash-plate, and a link such as arcuate lever 12 pivotally attached to the stub shaft 11 and fixed to the end of shaft 13 such that rotation of drive-shaft 3 produces rotary movement of swash-plate 7 and thus causes rotary oscillation of stub shaft 11 in the plane of the drive-shaft axis. As shown the swash-plate 7 comprises a ball or roller bearing having an outer race 9, to which a ring 10 bearing the shaft 11 is secured, and an inner race 8 secured to a spigot 6 extending, at an angle to the axis of shaft 3, from a sleeve 4 secured to the end of drive-shaft 3.
