Abstract
1491945 Forcing molten metal SOAG MACHINERY Ltd 28 Jan 1976 [4 Feb 1975] 4705/75 Heading F1R [Also in division B3] In a method of low-pressure die casting in which metal is forced into a die S by two pressurization circuits used in a two stage cycle, in the first stage pressurized gas is supplied to a furnace from reservoirs 10, 16 in the first and second circuits respectively to lift the metal to the top of a riser tube 3, in the second stage gas is only supplied from the reservoir 16 in the second circuit (reservoirs 10 having been disconnected by, for example, a pressure switch 13) to force the metal into the die 5, wherein in the second stage the volume flow of gas is kept constant by a compensating valve 18 reacting to an increase in back pressure from the die to keep the pressure difference across a throttle valve 17 constant. At the start of the cycle the pressure at the inlet of the throttle valve 17 is equivalent to the spring-bias of the compensating valve 18 and is automatically increased in response to the back pressure. The reservoirs 10, 16 may be maintained at 30-40 psi and 5-10 psi respectively.
