Abstract

1491903 Disc brakes GIRLING Ltd 17 March 1975 [2 April 1974] 14514/74 Heading F2E In a disc brake of the type in which the caliper has two limbs locating friction pads on opposite sides of the disc and circumferentially spaced arms, e.g. draw-bars 13, 14, extending over the disc periphery to connect the limbs, arms 13, 14 are arranged in a chordal plane which is spaced radially outwards from the centres of pressure of the pads, a removable thrust member 17 being arranged between the limbs to maintain them in parallel relationship and provide a reaction opposing the moment of the brake applying force on the arms. As shown member 17 is a block held in a spring clip 19 by bolt 20 and retained in position by a spring retainer 21 having two pairs of arms 22 whose free ends are received in openings 23 in the caliper limbs. Spring arms 25 integral with clip 19 act on the pads 4 which can be removed by disengaging one pair of arms 22 from openings 23 and pivoting the retainer 21, with clip 19 and block 17, about the ends of the other pair of arms 22. The caliper is guided on carrier member 1 by pins 16. In the embodiment of Figs. 3-7 (not shown) pins 16 are omitted and the draw-bars are resiliently mounted in the carrier member. The thrust member is integrally formed with slotted depending limbs which resiliently bear on the pads, the member being retained by a spring acting a pin located in a slot in its upper surface of the member.
