Abstract

1491708 Welding by pressure; tube expanding ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 May 1975 [27 June 1974] 28505/74 Headings B3R and B3J In explosively welding a tube 3 into an opening 2 in a tube plate 1 having a plurality of openings 2, or explosively welding a hollow plug into a tube in said opening, closely conforming support members 4 are inserted into the openings 2, on tubes therein, surrounding the opening 2 into which a tube or plug is to be welded such that on detonating the explosive inside the tube or plug no damage is done to the surrounding openings. The support members may be CrMo steel and can be provided with either an integral head 8 or a screw-in head to assist removal and may be coated in molybdenum disulphide anti-scuffing paste as a lubricant.
