Abstract

1491699 Coating compositions F WACHENDORFF W WACHENDORFF and B WACHENDORFF [trading as C F WACHENDORFF GmbH & CO KG] 19 Dec 1974 [19 Dec 1973] 54894/74 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions B1-B2 and D1-D2] Binders for a reactive pigment coating on at least one surface of a base sheet suitable for printing with reactive dyes comprise a mixture of a binder which is readily soluble in alcohol and a binder resistant to alcohol, the combination of pigment and binders being such that the alcohol resistance of the coated base sheet is from 50-70% of the reference value for a glass plate. The pigment may comprise attapulgus clay and/or kaolin, or Silton clay. The binder may comprise a mixture of acrylate copolymers. In an example a binder comprising a mixture of an aqueous anionic dispersion of an acrylate copolymer having a pH of 3À5-4À7 and an aqueous anionic dispersion of an acrylate copolymer having a pH of 7À5 to 8À5 is used. The base sheet may be paper, cardboard, paperboard, plastic film, or metal. The reactive dyes which may be printed on the sheet may be of the basic chromogenic alcohol-soluble lactone type.
