Abstract

1491549 Steryl-beta-D-glucosides and 6- palmitates thereof NIPPON SHINYAKU CO Ltd 29 May 1975 23453/75 Heading C2U [Also in Division A5] Steryl-#-D-glucosides having the formula where R<SP>1</SP> stands for a campesteryl, stigmasteryl or cholesteryl group and R<SP>2</SP> stands for hydrogen are prepared by (1) extracting plants with suitable solvents, e.g. soybean with hexane or (2) reacting campesterol, stigmasterol or cholesterol with α - acetobromoglucose, calcium hydride, silver oxide and ether. B-Sitosteryl-#- D-glucoside 6-monopalmitate and 6-monopalmitates of the above steryl-#-D-glucosides are prepared by reacting the glucoside with a palmitic acid ester such as methyl palmitate. The glucosides are useful as haemostatics, vascular stabilizers and anti-shock agents and may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers (see Heading A5).
