Abstract

1491280 Battery comprising electrode frames VARTA BATTERIE AG 26 Nov 1975 [26 Nov 1974] 48630/75 Heading H1B In an electric storage battery in which positive and negative plates are each enclosed in a synthetic resin frame, the frames have identical external dimensions and are stacked together to form an assembly having its outer surfaces leaktight, and the frames have upwardly extending projections defining an electrolyte and gas space. The plate may occupy only the middle part of the frame, there being also a sediment space at the bottom of each frame in addition to the electrolyte/gas space at the top; a fleece of synthetic resin or glass fibre may be located either side of the electrode to give support to the active material; corrugated separator members located in their own frames also of identical external dimensions may be interposed between each positive and negative plate; between the corrugated separator and the sediment space a row of holes is situated to allow electrolyte circulation. The frames may have complementary tongues and grooves at their periphery and are sealed together by adhesive or thermowelding; the frames are of polyethylene or polypropylene, and end-plates are provided to close the cell; a synthetic resin sheath may be shrunk on to the assembly so formed, or the stack surrounded by a container. The cell may be a lead-acid cell.
