Abstract

1490691 Decolourizing aqueous solutions BAYER AG 26 Jan 1976 [27 Jan 1975] 02847/76 Heading ClC An aqueous solution containing a watersoluble anionic organic dyestuff is decolourized by precipitating the dyestuff with a watersoluble cationic or ampholytic polymer, which polymer has a molecular weight of 10<SP>3</SP> to 10<SP>7</SP>, contains at least 30 mol. per cent of monomer units carrying ionic groups and has a molar ratio of cationic to anionic groups of 100 : 0 to 30 : 70 or mixture of such polymers. The cationic polymers preferably contain groups of the formulµ -NR 1 R 2 or -NR 1 R 2 R 3 wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are each hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, and the ampholytic polymers preferably contain the above cationic groups together with carboxylic or sulphonic acid groups. The polymers are preferably polymers of aminoalkyl esters of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, dialkylamino-alkyl-acrylamides and methacrylamides and copolymers thereof with anionic and/or non-ionic monomers. Additional coagulants which may be used are iron (II), iron (III) and aluminium (III) salts, calcium oxide, silica, lignite, active charcoals, bentonite, Fuller's earth, silica gel, activated alumina, silica sols, zeolites, ion exchangers and adsorption resins.
