1490406 Oxadiazoles E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 13 May 1975 [22 July 1974] 20141/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises novel compounds (I) wherein X is oxygen or sulphur; R is hydrogen, C 1-10 alkyl, phenyl, chloro, bromo, C 1-10 alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, phenoxy or di-(C 1-10 alkyl)- amino; R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, C 1-10 alkyl, cycloalkyl of 3 to 6 carbons, a five or six membered heterocyclic ring containing from one to three heteroatoms selected from oxygen, sulphur, and nitrogen, phenyl or substituted-phenyl; and R<SP>3</SP> is C 1-10 alkyl, substituted-C 1-10 alkyl, C 2-10 alkenyl, C 2-10 alkynyl; cycloalkyl of 3 to 6 carbons, phenyl and substituted phenyl; said phenyl substituent being one or two members selected from fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, nitro, amino, trifluoromethyl, C 1-10 alkyl, and C 1-10 alkoxy or trimethoxy and said C 1-10 alkyl substituent being one or more members selected from chloro, bromo, fluoro and iodo; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. They are made by reacting corresponding amino compounds (II) with R<SP>3</SP>XCO.halogen; (II) are themselves obtained by reducing corresponding nitro compounds (prepared by cyclizing appropriate nitrophenyl-amidoximes which are prepared from corresponding nitrobenzonitriles). Pharmaceutical preparations having anthelmintic, antibacterial and antifungal actions contain (I) as active ingredient. Administration is orally, parenterally or topically.
