Knot - tying devices. - A machine for tying weavers' knots, of the type described in Specification 11866/14, is modified so that the operative parts move about a single centre. The frame c, Fig. 12, with the hand grip d, e, has journaled in its upper part the spiral hook a which is driven by a pinion g on its shaft engaging a rack on a sector h pivoted to the frame at b and forming part of or attached to the thumbpiece i. The sector also carries a plain segmented plate m with a projection n at its rear end, and thread-guides r<1> and grippers t. The grippers comprise a fixed part and a spring- pressed pivoted part which at its inner end has a bevelled surface engaging a fixed stop on the frame to keep the grippers open. The loop j of one thread is laid over the projection n on each side of the plate m and in the guides r<1> and between the gripping jaws. Upward movement of the thumb-piece i releases the gripping jaws, rotates the spiral hook a and places the loop j in such a position that the spiral hook is interlaced therewith as the movement is completed. At this point, the second loop k, Fig. 18, is placed on the hook a by passing the free end between the guides on the frame and against the face thereof, and the curved edge of a guide-plate r, and then carrying it downwards in contact with a fixed cutter block 10. The lever i in its reverse movement carries with it the knife 14 which co-acts with the block 10 to sever the free end of the loop k and rotates the hook to interlace the end of the thread with the loop j. Further movement of the lever tightens the knot so made and causes the knife 14 to co-act with a fixed cutting edge 15 to sever the free end of the loop j. At the end of the reverse movement of the lever, the bevelled end of the thread gripper comes in contact with the fixed stop on the frame and releases the united threads.
