Abstract

1490092 Copying by scanning XEROX CORP 15 Nov 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 49474/74 Heading H4F A modulated light beam is passed to a recording medium 25 via a lens 10 having power in one plane and no power in another plane, scanning means such as a rotating mirror polygon 16 whose rotational axis is at right angles to the power plane of lens 10, and a lens 36, at least two faces of polygon 16 being illuminated at any one time. A further lens 18 may be included before or after polygon 16. Lens 36 may be a similar lens to lens 10 having its power plane parallel to the rotational axis of polygon 16. Each of lenses 10, 36 may be cylindrical, spherical or toric. The modulated light beam is produced by a laser 1 and modulator 4. Polygon 16 may be replaced by oscillating mirrors or mirrored piezo-electric crystals.
