Abstract
1489698 Anti-fouling coating O RASMUSSEN 28 Feb 1975 [4 March 1974 3 Dec 1974] 8388/75 Heading A5E [Also in Divisions C5 and C7] An anti-fouling coating on an underwater surface for impeding or preventing the fouling of the surface by living organisms comprises a solid material which adheres to and covers the surface and is insoluble or substantially insoluble in water, to which solid material is added at least one Cl- and/or Br- and/or I-releasing compound which slowly liberates free halogen on contact with water. Said compound may be chloramine-T, dichloramine-T, p-sulphone-dichloramidobenzoic acid, N:N-dichlorazodicarbonamidine, dichloroisocyanuric acid, trichlorisocyanuric acid, 1: 3-dichloro-5:5-dimethyl hydantoin, 1:3-dibromo-5:5-dimethyl hydantoin, N-bromo-acetamide, N-bromosuccinimide or tetraglycine hydroperiodide; the surface may be that of a ship, said solid material may be paraffin wax; the composition is applied molten or in solvent, and two layers may be applied, the first containing more halogen compound than the second.
