Abstract

1489581 Sliding roofs for vehicles WEATHERSHIELDS Ltd 6 Dec 1974 [22 Dec 1973 25 Jan 1974] 59685/73 and 03462/74 Heading B7B A flexible fabric cover 13 is mounted on transverse members (not shown) which slide in longitudinal rails 3 forming parts of a unitary frame 1 which, together with the cover 13, is installed as a whole in a roof groining 2. The arrangement avoids the individual attachment of separate frame members. As illustrated, the rails 3 have the cross-section shown in Fig. 3. The transverse members slide between inwardly directed flanges 15 and 16, and brackets 14 secure the cover 13 to rail webs 18. Upper outwardly directed flanges 6 rest on and are bolted to the edges of the roof opening. Lower outwardly directed flanges 7 engage the roof head lining. The distance between the free edges of the flanges 7 is slightly greater than the width of the roof opening and the frame is therefore installed in the opening by a process of tilting and slewing. Installation is completed by attaching an angle section member 17 to the front frame member 4. In another embodiment, Figs. 5-7 (not shown), the lower outwardly directed frame flanges are omitted and, after placing the frame in the roof opening, a further frame or a set of separate frame members, is secured to the main frame to clamp the roof and the head lining against the upper outwardly directed flanges of the main frame.
