Abstract
148,951. Latour, M. C. A. Oct. 21, 1916, [Convention date]. Optical and photographic receivers and recorders.-Wireless signals are amplified by a cascade of thermionic valves and detected by a glowlamp 7, the very fine tungsten or other metallic filament of which is raised to a temperature just below incandescence by a battery 8 or by a local source of electric oscillations of the same frequency as the received waves. The signals may be recorded on a photographic band which is automatically unwound before a window illuminated by the lamp. The oscillations may be rectified before detection, or a detector yielding low-frequency current may be interpolated. The lamp 7 may be protected from excessive currents by a boron resistance 9. In the case of wireless telephony, the photographic record is used in conjunction with a selenium cell for reproducing conversation. In the cascade of valves shown in the drawing, the filaments F have a common battery 3 and the plates P have a common battery 4, the second grid G being coupled at 5 to the first plate circuit.
