1488839 Carpets COBRA METALS Ltd 5 Aug 1975 [9 Aug 1974 27 March 1975] 35157/74 and 13119/75 Heading A4S A fitting for carpets or the like, e.g. a cover strip, edging piece, threshold strip or joining strip, which may or may not have teeth for securing the carpet or the like to it, comprises a body in the form of an aluminium or aluminium alloy extrusion having a surface which has a coating comprising an electrostatically deposited flock of fibres bonded to the surface by a hardened epoxy resin. The flock is of cut or ground fibres forming a pile on the surface. The body is preferably pretreated to remove surface grease, e.g. by trichloroethylene or alkali cleaning, and its surface is then treated to change the aluminium to an amorphous oxyphosphate by dipping it into an acidic aqueous solution of selected chemicals, e.g. using "Alocrom" (Trade Mark), followed by water rinsing and drying. The epoxy resin is preferably of the two part type comprising an adhesive and a hardener and may also include an accelerator, e.g. "Araldite" (Trade Mark). Surplus flock may be removed by tapping the fitting or blowing air over it, or by passing it through a brush vacuum chamber. The body may have an H or J cross-section, or it may comprise a base section having secured to it a trim section which is coated with the flock. The entire outer surface of the body may be coated with flock.
