Abstract
1488661 Heat pipes INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 11 Oct 1974 [11 Oct 1973] 47499/73 Heading F4U A two-phase thermosyphon comprises a closed vessel 1, containing liquid and vapour and having an evaporator region 4 and a condenser region 5, and is provided with a condenser reservoir 11, flow of condensate from the reservoir to the evaporator region being controllable to control the depth of liquid in the evaporator region. As shown, a riser tube 14 is provided, having one end connected to the reservoir and its other end open to the vapour in the vessel 1. The riser tube is provided with an electrical heater to produce a vapour lift pump whereby liquid will flow out of the riser tube to the evaporator region. The thermosyphon may also be provided with an arrangement for controlling the level of condensate in the reservoir, as disclosed in Specification 1,488,662.
